Power Play: Boost Your Powerball Winnings
Add a little excitement to your Powerball prizes by utilizing the Power Play multiplier option to boost all of your non-jackpot winnings by up to 10 times their original amount! Keep reading to see how it works and how you can add it to your ticket the next time you play Powerball online.

What Is Power Play in Powerball?
The Power Play add-on gives you the opportunity to increase your winnings for all prize levels except the jackpot. Prior to the Powerball drawing, a separate number (2, 3, 4, 5, or 10*) will be drawn; this is the Power Play number.
The Power Play add-on gives you the opportunity to increase your winnings for all prize levels except the jackpot for an additional $1 fee. Before each Powerball drawing, a separate number is drawn (2, 3, 4, 5); this is the Power Play number. Occasionally, when the jackpot is at $150 million or below, the Power Play can also be 10x.
While the Powerball Power Play feature does not apply to the jackpot prize, it will double the second-place prize from $1 million to $2 million (regardless of the Power Play number) and multiply the rest of the draw’s non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times!
If you ever wondered what Power Play means in Powerball, now you can add Power Play to your next entry by marking the corresponding checkbox in your play slip.
How Does Powerball Work?
Choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and one number (1-26) as your additional Powerball number. To win the Powerball jackpot, all six numbers in your entry must match the drawn numbers in any combination (five main numbers plus the Powerball). For our comprehensive good on how to play Powerball, visit this page.
For example, if you match the draw’s 4th place prize without Power Play, you would win $100. If you had added the Power Play feature to your ticket and the number “5” was selected; your prize would go from $100 → $500. If the number “10” was selected, you would be walking home with a $1,000 Powerball prize! Activating Power Play doesn’t affect the odds of winning a Powerball prize, but due to the differing amount of balls per number, the chances of each Power Play number being picked are different.
Power Play Multiplier | Balls | Odds |
---|---|---|
2X | 24 | 1:1.75 |
3X | 13 | 1:3.23 |
4X | 3 | 1:14 |
5X | 2 | 1:21 |
TOTAL=42 |
If the annuity for the draw’s jackpot prize is under $150 million, another ball with the number “10x” will be added to the drum (increasing the total number of balls to 43). See below how this affects the odds of each Power Play number to be drawn:
Power Play Multiplier | Balls | Odds |
---|---|---|
2X | 24 | 1:1.79 |
3X | 13 | 1:3.31 |
4X | 3 | 1:14.33 |
5X | 2 | 1:21.5 |
10X | 1 | 1:43 |
TOTAL=43 |
